Summary: Dubbed as Korea’s Jay-Z and Beyonce, hip-hop artists Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae are on a mission to beat the drum for the influential movement that is Korean hip-hop. Yoon tells Life! at The Ritz Carlton, Millenia Singapore: “K-pop is a big sensation right not but it’s not the only music from Korea. It’s time people know that we’re able to put out different kinds of music – soul, electronic, rock – and we have lots of great artists”. The pair were in town last week, spreading their message and performing at music conference Music Matters 2012.
While Tiger JK and Yoon have won numerous accolades at home and abroad. Tiger JK has won the Best Male Artist Of The Year award at the 2009 Mnet Awards, which is considered one of the most important events in the Korean music industry, and Yoon was crowned one of the 12 best female rappers in the world by MTV.

Summary: Several veterans in the local music scene have come together to form the Singapore Music Society to create more opportunities for budding musicians and to develop talent. The non-profit organisation was officially launched last week at this year’s Music Mattes conference, an international trade event that promotes the business of digital and live music entertainment through workshops and talks.
The president Mr Graham Perkins was inspired by the work of Canadian Independent Music Association at last year’s Music Matters conference. At the recent two-day Music Matters conference last week, the society managed to work with the event’s organisers to arrange one-on-one sessions with international industry big-wigs including famed record producer Bob Ezrin, former Pink Floyd manager Peter Jenner and former Linkin Park manager Rob McDermott.
